Revolution (poem)
Revolution
I want to start a revolution.....
A Revolution that includes every single viable original recording musician in Thunder Bay.
And I want to start the conversation
Did you know that ITunes takes
Almost half of an album sale?
Did you know Spotify pays 0.000008 cents per stream? So 1million streams will potentially make you around 4000$
Bandcamp, Cdbaby, Etc etc etc
I could go on and on with how much musicians are loosing on trying to hustle their craft out into the world.
As I stare down the pipeline of releasing my next album......
It gets disheartening and fast....
To record a decent studio album it costs approximately give or take 10,000$
Plus
To pay your people to do it right.
Ok So
What if we could change that right here at home.
What if we could start to really pay attention to how a mere 40$ a year could change the outcome of every working musician in Thunder Bay.
I’m talkin everyone.....
The math is easy.........thank god....
Cause I suck at math.
This is a super long shot and
a pipe dream but hear me out.
Let’s start small......
1000 people
Pick two bands a year
And buy their hard copy album
CD
for 20$ each.
1000 x 40$= 40,000$
That’s a revenue of 20,000$ per band
Which helps the bands pay off the recording of the previous record and have a nest egg for the next one with potential to actually eventually put a wee bit of food on the table.
And that’s only with 1000 people buying two bands albums.
Whoa right???
Now turn the 1000 people into 10,000 or 30,000
That’s a lot of good happening in the community.......
It would trickle down to so many others in the musical community as well
Studios
Band Members
Master
Mixers
Digital Artists
Print Shops
Local Live Music Venues
Restaurants
Families
The catch is that people have to commit to buying a physical album regardless of their ability to play it.
Loooots of people don’t own CD players anymore.......
That being said......by buying the physical album directly off of the musician.......the musician benefits almost 95% of the album sale.
Instead of pandering and paying off the middle man.
It’s an investment in your people
I know we all know this as common sense.........
“Buy the physical album”.....
But do we reaaally know this......
And do we as a community see the bennifit to keeping our Thunder Bay music scene alive and well.
I’ve been going back and forth on the idea of going strictly digital
or buying 1000 hard copy albums and hoping to god I can sell some........
And I think it’s possible
It’s all possible
Could you imagine if Thunder Bay was able to flip the status quo and show the music industry that there is another way???
Could you imagine if everyone who was able.....could adopt two bands in Thunder Bay and commit to buying two local band physical copies a year!
Or even one?
Thus allowing the creators to keep creating and the streamers to keep streaming......
Our community would be investing back into the economy by supporting Local music
Local art
Local creators
And let me tell you we have one hell of a talented group of singers and players.
And all for the low adoption price of 40 buckaroos a year
You may say I’m a dreamer........
