Thankful (poem)
Thankful
Today I sit and think
How thankful that I am
For all the dark that came before
Bound me by the hands
The dark was necessary
To show me there could be
Brightness on the other side
Of strengthens tenacity
I’m thankful for the hard times
I couldn’t see the light
And when it showed itself to me
The space turned brilliant bright
For one without the other
Would be dreadful dire indeed
We need a mirror reflection
So we can clearly see
I’m thankful for the high times
As dark made sweeter still
A reminder that pulling through
The darkness is a skill
A practice that if you try
Time and time again
Your efforts are exemplified
Faster will you win
I’m thankful for the chance
To know each time I’ll grow
In confidence and heart strength
Comforting my woe
I’m thankful for ability
To invite it all
As being happy all the time
Is not sustainable
So today I want to say
Embrace the opposite
For without the other
One would often quit
I’m thankful most of all
For the feelings that are felt
Your gifts - your sensitivity
Upon the table dealt
When you show me who you are
It makes me feel so proud
To know someone in honesty
Your feelings loved out loud
I wouldn’t want you different
You’re as perfect as can be
Light and dark and in between
You are meaningful to me
So today I sit and think
How thankful is an art
Never splitting
Dark and Light
They live
Within our hearts

I wrote this today
Because feeling thankful doesn’t always have to be about creating unattainable lightness
There is room for duality in every feeling.
Celebrating the dark too
Knowing that one can’t exist without the other.
I’ve been really excited about writing lately. It’s been filling my cup in a way that feels wholesome and stretchy.
Open......
It’s not about “perfect”
It’s never about “perfect”
It’s about showing up
Big love
