Practice and Perfection
Not all practice
Makes perfection
Simply right away
It’s an art
Of sticking to it
Almost every day
The habit of
Making things
The mind goes very deep
No matter if
It’s good or bad
The knowledge of it seeps
Way deep down
Into your brain
Patterns that it makes
Weaving in and
Out of things
Broad spaces it takes
To keep you Moving
Towards your plan
The more mistakes the better
The more you fail
The more you learn
Each time that you unfetter
And that’s what practice
Is you see
It’s not about perfection
It’s doing things
So many times
That it becomes reflection
A mirror image
Of you my dear
All your patient aims
When even if
You don’t succeed
You play to try again
And in your trying
You might see
Your diligence shine through
Because your practice
Becomes perfection
Because
It
Came
From
You
The posts are coming in hot this week.....jeeze....
I wrote this poem because I have been thinking a lot about
Showing up
Imperfectly
And what that means to put the practice in.
As I’m coming up to the crossroads of some major decisions about the launch of the album
I find my self in a loop of
Should and shouldn’t
It’s a live album, ya know?
And my voice wavers in parts
And I play a few wrong notes
And and and.....pick pick pick
But then
I stopped
And finally realized
*If True*
•So What•
This is all a practice
And the more I create
The better this craft is going to get
And it takes a whole lot of work
And a whole lot of just sitting down and doing it.
And a whole lot of courage to make the thing
and put it out.....
To keep going to create again....
And doing it in such a way that it keeps you interested and loving it.
I’m so grateful for the process of
Practice
Failing
Creating
And being so darn
Handsomely imperfect
Sitting in this spot feels good
I can get used to the rolling ways it makes me feel.
Cause it makes me feel
Alive
And well
And sometimes even electric
So
If you are wanting to create something
My advise to you is to just do it
Make it
It’s ok if it’s not perfect
We aren’t here to be perfect
We are here to practice
Big Love
